This Uganda Primate Safari takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking and Kibale Forest National Park for chimpanzee trekking.

Kibale Forest National Park is the best chimpanzee trekking destination in Africa located in the western region of Uganda, the park protects the moist evergreen forest covering 795 square kilometers. Kibale is one of the parks remaining with both lowland and montane forest in East Africa with the last significant expanse of pre-montane forest.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the best gorilla trekking destination in the world and home to half of the surviving population of mountain gorillas in the world, the park is dominated by a magnificent verdant swathe of forest across the steep ridges of the Albertine Rift Valley. The forest is one of the few ancient rainforests remaining in the Africa to have flourished throughout the Ice Age and it is home to the rare Mountain Gorillas.

Detailed itinerary of 4 Days Gorillas & Chimpanzee Uganda Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park

To start off your 4 Days Gorillas & Chimpanzee Uganda Safari, our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala/Entebbe or at the airport upon arrive. Embark on a journey to Kibale – western Uganda on a drive of approximately 6 hours, have en-route lunch in Fort Portal and continue to the park.

Spend the evening at your lodge for go for a nature walk in Bigodi Swamp where you will see small primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons and many birds. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest – Transfer to Bwindi Forest

Have breakfast and head to Kibale Forest Headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking, your ranger guide will take you through the rules and regulations to follow while in the forest. In groups of 8 people you will enter into the forests of Kibale Forest looking for the playful chimpanzees, the trek takes about 2 to 4 hours or more depending on where the chimpanzees stayed the previous night.

After spending one hour with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and head to the lodge for lunch. Then set off on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Queen Elizabeth National Park, here you may spot various wildlife species including elephants, buffaloes among others.

Arrive in the park in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing from the UWA Staff, ensure that you carry along with you a rain jacket, drinking water, snacks, jungle boots among others.

Your ranger guide will take you through the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking, be grouped into 8 people then assigned a gorilla family to trek. Then enter into the forests of Bwindi looking for the gentle giants.

Carry your lunch boxes with you, gorilla trekking is an exciting wildlife experience on earth and the trek may take between 2 and 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. When you locate the gorillas, you are allowed to spend only one hour in the presence of the gorillas taking pictures and watching them go on with their lives in the forests of Bwindi.

After this amazing experience, trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and head back to your lodge or head to the Batwa Village for a cultural experience.

The Batwa Cultural experience is a very rewarding experience and informative, you will get deeper information about the life of the Batwa in the forests and how they have thrived since being kicked out of the forest of Bwindi, be entertained by local dances and drama among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Bwindi Forest – Entebbe/Kampala

Return to Kampala or Entebbe, with lunch enroute with stopover at Igongo Cultural Center to explore the life style of the Ankole and Bahima, thereafter proceed at the Equator Uganda before your evening departures home.
