Detailed itinerary of 4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda

Day 1: Kigali City Tour – Head to Volcanoes National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park. Depending on your arrival time, you will have a Kigali Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, the Kimironko Market and the conventional centre.

After the thrilling Kigali City on which you will know more about this beautiful city, embark on a 3 hours’ drive to the iconic Volcanoes National Park. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking – Ib’Iwacu Cultural Village Tour

Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park for gorilla trekking. You will join other trekkers at the park quarters in Kingi for briefing on what to expect during the trekking and the proper way to behave. Volcanoes National Park has a total of 12 habituated gorilla families, you will be assigned one of these families based on your overall fitness level.

After the briefing you will be driven to the starting point, enter into the forests looking for mountain gorillas, the trek lasts about 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Once you locate the gorilla family, you will spend one how observing the youngsters rolling and playing close to the adults and some might come close to you out of curiosity. You are allowed to take as many photos as possible. Return to the starting point where you will meet your guide and return to your lodge for lunch. In the evening you will head to the Ib’iwacu Cultural Village for an enriching cultural experience, here you will be entertained by local dances and drama, interact with the elders and take part in preparing the local banana brew.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Visit the Twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo

Just like the previous day, you will wake up early and follow the same program. However, this time you will be assigned a different gorilla family to enable you experience a different mountain gorilla family and observe its dynamics. No gorilla family is similar to the other, they also have some differences which you will be able to point you on this safari.

In the afternoon, you will go for a visit to the Twin Lakes of Burera for a boat cruise while enjoying the serenity and sights of several bird species.

Day 4: Departure

After breakfast which you will enjoy at your leisure, check out of the lodge and embark on a journey back to Kigali City where you will be dropped off either at your hotel or at the airport for your departure flight back home.
