Detailed itinerary of 4 Days Gorilla Trekking & Sabyinyo Volcano Hike

Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park

You will be picked up by our guide as early as 07:00 am and embark on a journey to Southwestern Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

En-route, have a stopover at the Equator Landmark for pictures and a chance to stand both in Northern and Southern Hemisphere and in Mbarara for lunch. Pass by mountains, tropical rainforests, and bamboo forests. Arrive in the park in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

4 Days Gorilla Trekking & Sabyinyo Volcano Hike

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, your drive guide will transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the forest and presence of the endangered mountain gorillas.

Enter into the misty forests of Bwindi looking for mountain gorillas in groups of 8 people, the trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas. When the gorillas are sighted, visitors will be guided to within 6 meters from the gorillas, sit around them for a whole hour while gazing into their big round eyes.

After this mind-blowing experience, you will trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and head back to your lodge for relaxation or head to the Batwa – Pygmy People for a cultural experience. The Batwa People are the early inhabitants of Bwindi Forest, unfortunately they were evicted from the forest when the area was designated a protected area with aim of protected the endangered mountain gorillas. Here you will be entertained by local dances and drama, demonstration of their high hunting skills and visit the medicine man among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Hike Mount Sabyinyo

Today is designated to climbing the Sabyinyo extinct Volcanoes, one of the eight Virunga Volcanoes and consists of 3 peaks.

The hike to Mount Sabyinyo takes you through muddy trails often on wooden ladders with expectations of partial rain and clearing clouds as you get to the beautiful view of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. At this time, the view is at times reduced t 10ft, reach the summit view and from here you will be able to see and stand in all three countries, Uganda, Rwanda and Congo.

The hike sometimes involves walking straight high up the mountain without going around it. The views and challenges of hiking Mt. Sabyinyo make it an amazing experience for adventures.

Climbing Sabyinyo Volcano (Sabyinyo has three peaks, you can climb all three in the same walk, but you need to be fit!! ± 8 hrs, distance 14 km; height 3,669 m, elevation gain 1,300 m). On hiking safety, Mt. Sabyinyo has walking trails and occasionally maintained wooden ladders which make it safer for hikers.

Day 4: Kampala – Entebbe

After breakfast, return to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara. Your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight back home, bringing your safari to an end.
