The Binyindo Gorilla Family in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a remarkable gorilla family, found in Buhoma Sector – the oldest gorilla trekking sector in Bwindi Forest. The gorilla family is under the leadership of a dominant Silverback- Binyindo from whom the family gets its name.

Silverback Binyindo was named after his outstanding nasal features, thought to be shaped by scars or his natural appearance.

Binyindo Gorilla Family is one of the most interesting gorilla families to visit on a gorilla trekking in Uganda adventure. Before being open for gorilla trekking in Buhoma Sector, the family was monitored by the rangers and researchers for 3 years before it was opened for tourism. The group is composed of 9 individuals including 1 Silverback, 5 Adult females, 2 Juveniles and 1 infant.

The Binyindo Gorilla Family is one of the most captivating gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, this group underwent a three – year habituation process around 2018 – 2021 before being open for gorilla trekking.  Gorilla habituation is a crucial conservation process through which wild gorillas gradually become accustomed to human presence without altering their natural behavior.

This gorilla family is often roams a scenic range near the Ivi River Trail, close to the border of Bwindi with the Sarambwe Nature Reserve in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Gorilla treks to visit the Binyindo Gorilla Family typically start at the Buhoma Trailhead, allowing you one unforgettable hour of observing their behaviors from the calm dominance of the silverback to the playful antics of juveniles and the tender care of mothers with infants.
