Full Itinerary of 7 Days Uganda Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park – Tour Fort Portal

After breakfast at your hotel or upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and embark on a journey to Kibale National Park driving through amazing sites of the countryside, national parks, forests, lakes, large plantations and the intriguing Ankole Cattle.

On arrival in Fort Portal, you will have lunch and then go for a tour visiting the Royal Palace of Toro and enjoy the beautiful scenery of this tourism district.

Continue to your lodge, check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi Swamp walk

Have early breakfast and head to Kibale National Park headquarters for briefing on chimpanzee trekking, the briefing is led by the Park Guides and is all about the rules of tracking chimpanzees, the park and what to expect.

After the briefing, you will head to the starting point and enter into the forests of Kibale looking for chimpanzees. The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent their previous night.When you locate the chimpanzees, you are allowed to spend one hour in their presence watching them play on trees, pick fruits and groom each other. You are allowed to take pictures, then trek back to the park headquarters, meet your guide and return to the lodge for lunch.

Later in the day, you will head to Bigodi Swamp for a nature walk and birding, expect to see several bird species, small monkeys, butterflies and many more.

Day 3: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and afternoon game drive

Wake up early for breakfast, checkout and embark on a 2 hours journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park through the Ishasha Sector of the park, the Ishasha sector is famous for hosting tree climbing lions.

Continue your journey to your lodge, check –in and refresh as you wait for your afternoon game drive. As you explore the savannah plains of the park you will see various animals including lions, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs among others.  In the evening, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Second Game drive and boat trip at the Kazinga Channel

Enjoy early breakfast at your lodge, meet your guide and head out for a game drive in the Kasenyi Plains. The morning game drive will allow you to catch up with nocturnal animals and predators retreating back to their dens after hunting in the night.

You should spot the early risers and especially birds, other animals to lookout for include hippos, leopards, buffaloes among many other birds. After the game drive, you will start the journey back to the lodge for lunch and rest.

After your meals and short rest, you will head to the Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise. The Kazinga Channel is one of Africa’s greatest birding site and home to the largest population of hippos. You will also elephants, antelopes and crocodiles always seen bathing/drinking by the water.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast at your lodge, you will check out and head to the Lake Katwa to see how the people mine salt using local methods. This is a good time to mingle with the locals and find out how they and their ancestors benefit from the salt.

Later embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with packed lunch box.

Arriving in the evening, check in at your lodge and spend the rest of the day relaxing. Have dinner and overnight stay.

Uganda Gorilla Trekking Experience

Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest – Visit to the Batwa Pygmies

You should wake up early and have breakfast as you wait for the driver to pick you and take you to the park headquarters for briefing, the briefing is a very important part of the trek and is where you will meet other trekkers and rangers who will be leading you to the forest.

The briefing covers many topics about gorillas but the most important is how to behave around the gorillas, what to expect and what to carry along while tracking the gorillas. You will be assigned a gorilla family to trek depending on your overall fitness and age.

Then enter into the forests looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Upon locating them, you are allowed to spend one hour in their presence taking pictures and observing how they go on in their life in the forest, you will see them groom, play, eat or take a nap.

After an hour of observing the mountain gorillas, you will return back to the starting point where your guide will be waiting for you. Do not forget your certificate of completion then head to the local community for a visit to the Batwa for a cultural experience. You will be entertained by their local dances and drama, learn about their culture and challenges they face after a life of plenty in the forest among others.

Day 7: Transfer back to Kampala for departure

This is the last day of your Uganda Safari, you will wake up at your own time depending on your departure time. Check out of your lodge and embark on a journey back to Entebbe with stop at the Igongo Cultural Center in Mbarara for lunch and at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe for photographs.

If time permits, you can also stop at the Buganda Royal Drum Makers to learn how giant drums were crafted. Continue to Entebbe where you will be dropped off at the airport for your departure flight.
