Detailed Itinerary of of Northern Rwanda Safari Experience

Day 1: Kigali City Tour

On arrival in Kigali at Kigali International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and be transferred to your hotel in a private vehicle, check in and have sometime resting. Later you will out for a Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Site, Craft Market, Kant Museum among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Have breakfast and embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park in Southern Rwanda. It is a drive of about 6 hours with a stopover in Nyanza and in Huye for a city tour offering you a chance to visit the King’s Palace. Have lunch in Huye and continue with your journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park arriving in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Have breakfast and after, join other visitors at Chanika Reception Center for a morning briefing on the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking and how to behave while in the forest. Led by an armed ranger guide you will head into Nyungwe Forest searching for chimpanzees.

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park begins from either Uwinka or Cyamudongo Trail. In addition to chimpanzees, Nyungwe Forest is home to several other primates including red tailed monkeys, L’Hoest monkey, grey cheeked mangabeys, black and white colobus monkeys among others which you will see during the hike. Once you locate the chimpanzee troop, spend one hour in their presence watching them play, feed and groom each other. Return to your lodge for lunch and short rest.

In the afternoon, head out for a canopy walk along the 50 meters’ bridge suspended above the rainforest offering you exceptional sights of varied primate species, birds and various species trees and plants.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy early breakfast and then set off to Volcanoes National Park located in northwestern Rwanda. En-route enjoy the best breathtaking sceneries from the rolling hills that make Rwanda a true land of a thousand hills.

Arrive early in the evening, check in at your lodge for rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

Your day starts early for breakfast and join other visitors at the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking, a senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the gorillas. With armed rangers guide, head into the forest searching for a gorilla troop assigned to you.

The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Spend a precious hour with the gorilla family as you watch them play, feed and groom each other. You are allowed to take photos and videos, return to your lodge for lunch and short rest. In the afternoon you will head to the Iby’Iwacu Village for a cultural experience for entertainment, meet the local people and get an insight into their life, cultures and traditions.

Day 6: Departure

Today is the last day of your Rwanda Safari, after breakfast you will be check out of the lodge and be transferred back to Kigali where you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination.
