Detailed itinerary of 7 Days Rwanda Double Gorilla Trek
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide. Depending on your arrival time, have a short Kigali City tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Site. Later embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park through the hills of Rwanda, arrive late in the evening, and check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight as you prepare for your first gorilla trekking experience the following day.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking
After early breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking, rules and regulations and how to conduct yourself in the presence of mountain gorillas. In groups of 8 people, you will head into the misty forests of Volcanoes National Park looking for a gorilla family assigned to you.
The Gorilla Trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent their previous night, some level of physical fitness is need for this amazing activity. When you finally come face to face with the giant mountain gorillas, you are required to spend one hour watching the gorillas going on with their life in the forest, grooming the babies and take amazing pictures (remember to put your flash light off).
Return to the starting point, meet your driver guide and head to your lodge for lunch. Later in the evening, head to the Twin Lakes for a guided walk. Later head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking
Just like the previous gorilla trek, you will have early breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing. This time you will be assigned a different gorilla family in different area of the park, purposely to give you a more enriching gorilla experience and a chance to point to differences and similarities.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
Enjoy early breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park with en-route lunch. Have a stop at Butare to see the Rwandan National Museum and the King’s Palace in Nyanza.
Arrive in afternoon, check in at your lodge and spend the rest of the day enjoy the serenity of the lodge.
Have dinner and overnight at Budget: Gisakura Guesthouse, Midrange: Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel, Luxury: One&Only Nyungwe House
Day 5 Chimpanzee Trekking
Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about the mesmerizing chimpanzee trekking adventure, a senior ranger will take you through the rules and regulations to follow in the forests of Nyungwe.
The trek to see chimpanzees in Nyungwe is a bit strenuous and requires some level of fitness, the park’s elevation ranges from 1,600 to 2,950 m and Mount Bigugu is its highest peak. Once you locate the chimpanzee community, you will spend one hour observing the chimpanzees and how they behave and their unique body gestures among others.
Besides chimpanzees, expect to see a variety of other species freely roaming in the forests of Nyungwe including colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkey, birds and other floral species.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Day 6: Canopy Walk and Visit Gisakura Tea Estate
After a leisurely breakfast, you will head to the park for a thrilling canopy Walk starting from Uwinka Area Igishigishigi Trail, the experience involves walking through 200m long canopy walkway.
Return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will head to Gisakuru Tea Estate for a tour of the a large tea population and how tea is collected, stored, processed and packaged for home and international markets. You will conclude this experience with a taste of the tea. Later return to your lodge for lunch and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.
Day 7: Transfer Back to Kigali
Have breakfast, checkout of your lodge and embark on a journey back to Kigali where your guide will drop you off at the airport bringing your safari to an end.
