Day 1: Pick up from Kigali – Transfer to Nyungwe forest

Day 2: Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Day 3: Gorilla trekking – Tour the Iby’iwacu cultural village

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Visit the Diani Fossey – Departure

Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Gorillas & Dian Fossey Campus Visit

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali – Transfer to Nyungwe forest

On arrival at Kigali International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel you will be met by our representative and go for a Kigali City Tour on which you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, Kimiroko Market and several crafts shops.

Enjoy lunch and set off on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park – located in southwestern part of Rwanda, arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Dinner and Overnight will be at Gisakura Guest House (Budget), Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-range).

Nyungwe Canopy Walk

Day 2: Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early for breakfast and head to Nyungwe Forest National Park for a canopy forest walk done on a metallic canopy suspended above Nyungwe Forest, from the viewing platform you will be able to spot several butterflies, birds and primates such as chimpanzees, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys among others. After this thrilling experience you will embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park with en-route lunch. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge and spend the rest of the day at rest, enjoy dinner and overnight stay.

Dinner and Overnight will be at Amikus Hotel (Budget), Toloreza (Mid-range).

Day 3: Gorilla trekking – Tour the Iby’iwacu cultural village

Enjoy early breakfast at your lodge and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the gorillas and how to behave while in the misty forest.

With ranger guides, enter into the forest searching for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2-4 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Spend one hour in their presence watching them play, feed and groom each other. Return to the starting point where your driver-guide will be waiting to take you back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you will head to the Guardians Village for a cultural experience, here you will meet the local people, interact with them, be entertained by local dances and drama of which you can also take part. This visit gives you an insight into the life of the local people, their culture and traditions.

Golden Monkey, Volcanoes National Park

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking & Visit the Diani Fossey – Departure

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge, and head to the park for golden monkey trekking. After briefing about the rules and regulations to follow, you will head into the forest searching for golden monkeys found in the bamboo forest. The trek takes approximately 2 to 3 hours with one hour of being in the presence of the golden monkeys, watching them play, feed and groom each other.

After the experience, return to your lodge for lunch and later head to Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Opened in 2022 near Volcanoes National Park, this world-class research and education centre honors Dian Fossey’s legacy and furthers the mission to save gorillas from extinction. Here you will learn about Dian Fossey’s efforts to saving the then declining population of mountain gorillas among others.

After the experience you will drive back to Kigali with en-route lunch. You will be dropped off at the airport or at the hotel depending on your presence, bringing your Rwanda Safari to an end.
