Detailed Itinerary of 11 Days Chimps, Wildlife, Golden monkeys & Double Gorilla Trek

Day 1: Arrival

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our driver-guide and drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp

Day 2: Shoebill Experience in Mabamba Swamp

Wake up early for breakfast and head to Mabamba Swamp along the shores of Lake Victoria for a shoebill trek, board a motorboat, then switch to a local community canoe to reach the heart of the swamp. Here you will search for the legendary shoebill – a rare, dinosaur-like bird found only in a few parts of Africa.

After the trek, you will embark on a journey to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you will spend the night.

Day 3: Rhino Tracking – Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Start your day with an unforgettable rhino tracking experience in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – the only place in Uganda where wild rhinos roam freely. This guided walking experience led by expert armed rangers, allows you to approach these endangered giants safely and observe them at close proximity in their natural environment.

After this thrilling experience, you will drive north towards Murchison Falls National Park – Uganda’s largest and oldest protected area. Have a stop at the top of Murchison Falls – the world’s most powerful waterfalls, enjoy a breathtaking sight and later head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Murchison Falls National Park

Start your day with an early morning game drive through the vast savannah plains of Murchison Falls National Park. The early hours are the best time to witness predators coming back to their dens from a night hunt.

In Murchison Falls National Park wildlife is diverse with chances of seeing lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes among other animals. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon for a boat cruise to the bottom of Murchison Falls, as you sail on Nile River, lookout for hippos and crocodiles in the water and herds of elephants and buffaloes alongside several water birds on the banks of the river. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast you will drive to Kibale Forest National Park, it is a journey of approximately 6-7 hours so expect to have lunch along the way. Arrive in the park in the evening, check in at your lodge as you wait for your dinner and have an overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking & Visit the Bigodi Swamp – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up early or breakfast, head to Kibale Forest National Park for chimpanzee trekking. Join other visitors for a briefing session about rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the chimpanzees and be assigned a chimpanzee troop to track.

In groups of 6 people, head into the rainforest led by a senior guide and armed rangers looking for chimpanzees. The trek takes approximately 2-4 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzee troop, spend one hour in their presence as you observe their group dynamics, watch them feed, play and care for each other. Trek back to the starting point and head to the lodge for lunch, later head to Bigodi Swamp for a guided walk, be on a lookout for black and white colobus monkeys, olive baboons and several bird species.

Later drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park arriving in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Game Drive and Boat Safari at Kazinga Channel  

You will start your day with a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will see several animals including lions, elephants, buffaloes, elusive leopards, elands, African wild dogs among others.

Return to the lodge for lunch and short rest. Later in the afternoon you will head to Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise, Kazinga channel is home to one of the world’s largest hippo populations and you will glide past pods of hippos, crocodiles basking on the banks, and large herds of elephants and buffalos coming to drink. In the evening, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Queen Elizabeth – Bwindi Forest – Cultural Experience

After breakfast you will drive to the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park for a morning game drive on which you will see the rare tree climbing lions lounging on fig tree branches.

Continue with a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with en-route lunch, arrive at your lodge in the afternoon, freshen up and have a short rest. Later in the day you will go for a visit to the Batwa Community, here you will be entertained by local dances and drama, interact with the elders, witness how gin is made as well as their skillful hunting tactics among others.

Day 9: Mountain Gorilla Trek in Buhoma Sector

Wake up early for breakfast, and with your packed lunch boxes, head to the park headquarters for briefing about mountain gorilla trekking. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the forest as well as in presence of the gorillas.

Led by a ranger guide, head into the forest searching for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 – 5 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Spend one hour in their presence as you watch them play, feed and groom. Trek back to the starting point, meet your driver and head to Nkuringo Sector where you will spend the night after a delicious dinner.

Day 10: Second Gorilla Trekking in Nkuringo Sector – Lake Mutanda

Today you will enjoy a second gorilla trekking experience in Nkuringo Sector, this trek will give you an opportunity to witness two different gorilla trekking sector in Bwindi as well as gorilla families.

After this amazing experience, you will head to Lake Mulehe for a relaxed evening. You can even take a boat ride around the lake.

Day 11 – Golden Monkeys – Transfer to Kigali

Wake up early for breakfast and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for golden monkey trekking. After briefing from a ranger guide, head into the forest looking for these beautiful primates found in the bamboo forest and spend one hour watching these playful primates pick bamboo shoots, play and feed.

After this amazing experience you will embark on a journey to Kigali City with en-route lunch. Your guide will drop you off at Kigali International Airport for your flight back home or to your next destination.
